Is Shikhar Dhawan the most underrated player in IPL?

IPL is full of flamboyance, flare, aggression, passion, and hunger to succeed and hit the headlines every single day. IPL has managed to produce some of best talents in cricket for India and as well as for other countries. When we look at the players and the teams from the tournament we get a feeling that it’s going to be a belter of a tournament.

Bowlers run in hard put tremendous efforts to take wickets and Batsmen always being skillful and take bowler off his cliff to make an impact in the game. Ipl has always been about the aggression and passion and the same thing we see in the field with players such as Virat Kohli, Gautam Gambhir, Bravo and the list goes on and they are all big players and are rated heavily all over the world.

One such batsman is Shikhar Dhawan. Cool, calm, composed and focused. The contribution that he makes to the sunrisers hyd team is immense. In the absence of David Warner, people are focusing on Shikhar Dhawan to deliver more for the team. Shikhar Dhawan has been prolific for the sunrisers but yet he goes unnoticed due to the performances that David Warner was putting in. He has been part of the sunrisers side from 2013 and since then he has been the spine of the batting with David Warner going all guns blazing with Shikhar Dhawan.

If we look at the number since he was drafted by Sunrisers hyd are pretty much what opening batsmen should have in the shortest format of the game. When sunrisers hyd won the title in 2016 he has scored 479 runs. In the year 2016, he scored 501 runs. In the year 2015, he has scored 353 runs. The consistency that he has shown in shortest format is brilliant. But he has been overshadowed by the likes of David Warner in the batting department and Bhuveneshwar Kumar in the bowling department for the sunrisers.

Sunrisers will dearly miss David Warner for his contributions in the top order but Shikhar Dhawan’s role I equally important. He has been holding the batting of the sunrisers together from past few years and he will be leading the batting attack for this year’s IPL for sunrisers.
